CTH S Bridge over the Grand River
Transportation | Structure Design
This rural bridge replacement project consisted of minor approach reconstruction and the complete replacement of the existing structure that carries CTH B over the East Branch of the Eau Claire River. The bridge is located on a sag vertical curve within a large high-quality wetland area, meaning minimization of environmental impacts was crucial. Multiple steps to minimize impacts included using minimum design standards, modified standards, and several design exceptions. The new bridge, resting on Type A1 abutments supported by steel cast-in-place pipe piles driven to bearing, spans 40 feet over the East Branch of the Eau Claire River.
