CTH H over Little Lemonweir River Bridge Replacement

This rural design project replaced the existing three-span concrete slab bridge that carries CTH H over the Little Lemonweir River, located in the Town of Fountain.

CTH H is classified as a Major Collector and serves as one of the main connection routes in Juneau County serving the Village of Hustler to the south and Camp Douglas and Volk Field Air National Guard to the north.

Extensive coordination with the WDNR was required due to a streambank easement located adjacent to the project. A 3R request was prepared, and approved, to limit the approach width to 30 feet versus 34 feet for this C2 roadway classification. Utilizing 3R standards not only fit the geometry of the site more appropriately but also reduced the overall project footprint and need for excessive right of way, saving costs.

Construction of the project was completed ahead of schedule in October 2025. The new structure is a three-span continuous haunched slab structure, 126.5-feet-long with a 30.0-foot clear width between concrete barriers. The non-skewed bridge rests on Type A1 sill abutments, supported by steel piles driven to bearing.
