STH 38 Bridge Over Root River
Transportation | Construction Oversight
The WisDOT/CORRE integrated team provided construction oversight and inspection services for this multiÂ-year staged urban project which reconstructed STH 38 through the Rapids Drive intersection and replaced the aging 3-span bridge over the environmentally sensitive Root River with a widened 150-ft single-span structure. Â

The project team worked extensively with WDNR and WisDOT stormwater engineers to ensure construction operations did not impact the WDNR Root River Steelhead Facility located just downstream of the project. Planning, coordination, and proactive implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs) were utilized to ensure construction was performed in a responsible manner. Other improvements included: sign structures, traffic signals and lighting, concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, and concrete sidewalk.Â
CORRE also maintained a safe site for the traveling public by thoroughly reviewing and adjusting traffic control to best fit each stage of construction. CORRE’s public involvement team met with businesses ahead of construction to ensure concerns were addressed in a timely manner. Throughout construction, business access was prioritized, and an open line of communication with stakeholders continued throughout the project.
