STH 32 (Douglas Ave) Reconstruction

STH 32 (Douglas Ave) Reconstruction
Transportation | Roadway Design

This 1.8-mile section of STH 32 (Douglas Avenue) is a high volume two-lane suburban commuter roadway in the Village of Caledonia, just north of the City of Racine. The project addressed deficient pavement structure, congestion, and intersection safety concerns.

Design included 1.8 miles of urban/rural resurfacing, design of a new three-intersection traffic signal system, right of way plat development, public involvement efforts, Trans 75 coordination and documentation, intersection control evaluations to determine intersection type, and navigable stream coordination.

Also included with this project was the replacement of two deficient box culverts. Single-cell, reinforced concrete box culverts were utilized for the replacement structures. The culverts have a natural stream bottom to address WDNR requirements and will be extended so the endwalls are outside the clear zone.
