STH 20, STH 36 to CTH C
Transportation | Roadway Design

These rural highway perpetuation/resurfacing projects consisted of improvements to the deteriorating STH 20 pavement structure with spot full-depth repairs, improvements to the intersection of NB USH 45 with a roundabout, improvements to the horizontal curve at County D and improvements to the intersections of STH 75 and USH 45 roundabouts. Additional project scope items include upgrading existing beam guard installations, the preparation of a traditional right of way plat, curb ramp improvements, culvert replacements, and bridge deck seals.

Some of the project challenges include:

County D Intersection: The project design team presented alternatives for the reconstruction of the horizontal curve at County D. Improvements were developed that increase public safety while avoiding residential properties to the greatest extent possible. These alternatives were presented in a Location Study Report submitted to the Department.

Constrained Right of Way: The project included constructing a roundabout at the intersection of STH 20 with northbound USH 45. The design team developed roundabout layout alternatives that met WisDOT’s goal of avoiding the need to acquire right of way from the gas station in the northwest quadrant of the intersection.

Historical: Due to the presence of numerous older houses and farmsteads within the project limits, CORRE completed Section 106 documentation.
