I-43 N-S Freeway (HAB), Hampton Ave to SB Ramp over Milwaukee River

CORRE provided construction oversight and inspection services for this large structure project on WisDOT’s I-43 North-South corridor. This project replaced the existing entrance ramp bridge from Hampton Avenue to I-43 SB with a new three span concrete girder bridge over the Milwaukee River.

The I-43 Hampton Avenue Bridge (HAB) project serves as the main entry point to I-43 for locals of the Sprecherville neighborhood in Glendale; industrial businesses; Lincoln Park users; and Milwaukee, Whitefish Bay, and Glendale residents. The bridge was reconstructed concurrently within the I-43 URT project limits and seamless coordination between the two projects was key to successful on-time and on-budget delivery. Coordination was also needed with the County’s adjacent Oak Leaf Trail and the rustic Forked Aster Trial which passed under the bridge.

The project work consisted of removals, grading, dense graded base, concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, concrete barrier, HMA pavement, storm sewer, erosion control, permanent signing, traffic signals, traffic control, pavement marking, street lighting, structures, bridges, retaining walls, noise barriers, and restoration.
