CTH D over French Creek Bridge Replacement
Transportation | Structure Design
This rural design project included minor approach work and the complete replacement of the existing three-span timber bridge that carries CTH D over French Creek, located in the Town of Ettrick.

CTH D serves as one of the main connection routes in Trempealeau County between Ettrick and Whitehall. Due to the existing bridge being posted for 20 Tons, heavy commercial and agricultural traffic were unable to use the structure.
Key elements on this project included flood mitigation due to the increase in recent flood events, the release of rights for two utility owners adjacent the bridge, and a 3R Standards request to limit the approach width to 30 feet. This request was ultimately approved, reducing the overall project footprint and saving costs.
Design of the project was delivered on time and on budget. The new structure is a single span 36W prestressed concrete girder structure, 90.5 feet long with 30 feet clear between Type M open steel railings. The bridge is skewed 30 degrees and rests on Type A1 sill abutments, supported by steel piles driven to bedrock.
