A Day in the Field – Zoo Interchange Inspection

This spring CORRE completed in-depth inspections on the recently completed Zoo Interchange in Milwaukee County – one of Wisconsin’s most complex and significant transportation infrastructure hubs. Uniquely different from the routine ground level bridge inspections, these inspections involved navigating the structures’ tub girders from the inside. The inspectors were on the lookout for corrosion and cracks in the steel and/or welded connections while also assessing the girder’s overall condition. These important inspections are required every four years and involve special access to a location the public doesn’t get to see – or even know exists!
