CORRE recently completed the design of a stormwater improvement project in Washburn County. This approximately 0.5-mile project is nestled in a constrained environment between a steep cut slope and Long Lake (an environmentally sensitive resource). This portion of CTH M has experienced the need for continual maintenance when shoulders wash out into Long Lake. WisDNR, USACOE, lake association, and Town of Long Lake expressed concern about environmental impacts to Long Lake. A unique design concept utilizing barrier wall was utilized to collect stormwater while avoiding impacts to the steep bank.
The project consisted of preparation and submittal of a WisDNR lake protection grant application that resulted in the County being successfully funded by the WisDNR. Extensive public involvement with the County, Town, and lake association was crucial to the project’s success.
