This WisDOT structure rehabilitation project involved multiple stages on Madison’s West Beltline.

The Project

The Terrace Avenue structures, which span the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, Terrace Avenue, and the Pheasant Branch Trail, were suffering from surface deterioration that recently resulted in emergency repairs. CORRE provided construction oversight and administration services for rehabilitation work that included concrete overlay on the eastbound structure and a complete deck replacement on the westbound structure. Extensive coordination was required for work operations and closures, including additional organization for nighttime traffic switches.

The Solution

By restricting lane widths and having ramps closed during certain stages of the project, construction was completed in a short season saving hundreds of thousands of dollars compared to alternative staging options. CORRE and department staff responded quickly to contractor questions and kept the project on schedule with timely problem solving. Bridge painting is ongoing and will be completed this summer.
