Project Spotlight: I-39/County N Interchange Progress

November 7th, 2017

The $24M I-39/County N Mega Project in Dane County is almost complete!

This CORRE-led project involves complex interchange reconstruction, including three new roundabouts, and one mile of new mainline paving. CORRE has been on-site daily providing construction engineering and inspection services, facilitating a quality and efficient project on one of Wisconsin’s busiest highways. Staged construction was utilized throughout the year to maintain I-39 and County N traffic at all times. This required numerous overnight traffic switches coordinated by our oversight team.

Some interesting project facts to date:

  • The new two-span structure with sign bridge is 90-feet-wide at mid-span and will accommodate two lanes of traffic in each direction.
  • Accelerated CRI staging of the new I-39 southbound mainline is underway, requiring coordination with adjacent projects and requiring additional resources as the contractors work around the clock to make the acceleration possible.
  • Three new roundabouts are being built utilizing staged construction under County N and I-39/90 entrance/exit ramp traffic.

You can read more about the project on our website and the WisDOT project and Facebook page.
